Generalized Quantum Relativistic Kinematics: a Stability Point of View

We apply Lie algebra deformation theory to the problem of identifying the stable form of the quantum relativistic kinematical algebra. As a warm up, given Galileo’s conception of spacetime as input, some modest computer code we wrote zeroes in on the Poincaré-plus-Heisenberg algebra in about a minute. Further ahead, along the same path, lies a three dimensional deformation space, with an instab...

Poincaré covariance of relativistic quantum position

A great number of problems of relativistic position in quantum mechanics are due to the use of coordinates which are not inherent objects of spacetime, cause unnecessary complications and can lead to misconceptions. We apply a coordinate-free approach to rule out such problems. Thus it will be clear, for example, that the Lorentz covariance of position, required usually on the analogy of Lorent...

Relativistic Kinematics and Stationary Motions

The relativistic jerk, snap and all higher-order kinematical D-vectors are defined for the motion of a massive particle in a D-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. We illustrate the formalism with stationary motions, for which we provide a new, Lorentz covariant, classification. We generalize some cases to branes, explaining the relevance to uniform motion in a heat bath. We also consider some non-...

Example of a Poincaré anomaly in relativistic quantum mechanics.

The Poincaré algebra of classical electrodynamics in one spatial dimension is studied using light-cone coordinates and ordinary Minkowski coordinates. We show that it is possible to quantize the theory by a canonical quantization procedure in a Poincaré invariant manner on the light-cone. We also show that this is not possible when using ordinary coordinates. The physical reason of this anomaly...

Elliptic Complexes and Generalized Poincaré Inequalities

We study first order differential operators P = P(D) with constant coefficients. The main question is under what conditions a generalized Poincaré inequality holds D(f − f 0) L p ≤ C Pf L p , for some f 0 ∈ ker P. We show that the constant rank condition is sufficient, Theorem 3.5. The concept of the Moore-Penrose generalized inverse of a matrix comes into play.
